Royston Sim

Financial Services Consultant

Story

I grew up in a huge family with 4 siblings and since young, both my parents had to work tirelessly just so that they could put us all through school. Arguments happened often and mainly because of money issues.

My parents gave us everything that they possibly could and the least that I could do was to study hard, get a good job and one day retire my parents. At least that was what I had in mind.

As such, being a NUS Business Student, I was eyeing an investment banking role that could realize this hope that I have. However, naivety got the better of me. I realised that the hours were inhumanely long and after an internship experience, I knew this was not something that I could foresee myself doing as a long-term career.

I never considered joining a financial advisory firm too, because of the stigma by society as well as my mum’s experience of getting scammed by an advisor in the past. However, after getting exposed to a stint in Odyssey Advisory, I realised that it could be done ethically, and our family’s financial struggles could have been lessened with proper planning.

And this got me thinking, if my mum has such a negative experience and suffered so much from poor financial planning, there are many others who might face such a similar situation as her. And they would need someone they can trust who would ethically plan for them.

Since then, I’ve set my sight on educating myself with the financial knowledge to empower the people around me. Slowly but surely, I hope to be the little lightbulb that illuminates the path for everyone.

My name is Royston, happy to grow with you and chart this beautiful life’s journey together!
