Story
When I was six years old, I dreamt of becoming an archaeologist, inspired by the adventures of Indiana Jones.
The essence of exploration and freedom struck me deeply, making me believe that life is all about the adventures and relationships we cultivate along the way. The thrill of discovering the unknown and the promise of new experiences captivated my young mind.
However, my real-life adventure was quite different. Growing up in a single-parent household with financial insecurity often felt far from ‘free.’ My mum, a real-life wonder woman, raised me single-handedly. Despite our financial struggles, she ensured that our home was always filled with love and care. Though we lacked material wealth, we were rich in heart and spirit.
My childhood in Singapore was filled with both blessings and challenges. My mother worked tirelessly, balancing a full-time job during the day, a part-time job at night, and attending night classes to upskill herself. She always made sure I had a roof over my head and meals on the table. She tried her best to compensate for the absence of a father figure, showering me with affection and support.
Yet, witnessing her constant stress about our finances and the immense sacrifices she made deeply impacted me. There were times when I saw her working late into the night, her face lined with worry about making ends meet.
Her determination and discipline were both inspiring and heart-wrenching. I admired her strength, but I knew that neither of us should have to live under such financial strain.
Watching my mum’s relentless efforts to provide for us highlighted the fragility of living pay check to pay check. I realised that financial security wasn’t just about having money but about having a plan. A plan that ensures our needs are met, our goals are attainable, and our future is secure. It was this understanding that opened my eyes to the world of financial planning and the importance of it.
Her relentless efforts and sacrifices taught me the true value of financial planning. I decided to pursue a career in this field to ensure that others have the guidance and support they need to avoid financial uncertainty. My goal is to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to secure their financial future, to make their life’s journey less daunting and more rewarding.
Financial planning in this modern world is like a map for an expedition–A detailed map helps you navigate the terrain and reach your destination. Similarly, a good financial plan charts out the path to your goals, providing security and peace of mind.
I’m Aston, and I’m here to guide you through life’s adventure.
